Announcing: New AFF Fellowship Award & Advisory Program
May 27, 2020
At Austin Film Festival, it is our ongoing mission to champion the work of writers and filmmakers, and this goal has never felt as urgent as it does today. Our film competition has grown year after year and so have our efforts to serve as an avenue into the ever-evolving entertainment industry. Now, more than ever, we are thrilled to announce the inaugural Enderby Entertainment Filmmaking Fellowship Award and the Austin Film Festival Jury Advisory Program.
The Fellowship Award is available to entrants in the Narrative Short and Student Short Film Competition categories. The winner will be provided with covered travel and lodging for a trip to Enderby’s Los Angeles offices that will offer career guidance and the opportunity to shadow company executives and filmmakers on-site. Meanwhile, the Advisory Program will facilitate opportunities for entrants across all nine of AFF’s film competition categories sourced from selected in-competition films. Each Jury Winner per competition category and at least one additional selected in-competition filmmaker per category will have the opportunity to participate in advisory sessions with members of the AFF jury. The jury already includes representatives from notable companies such as Pixar Animation Studios, ESPN Films, Participant, Powderkeg, Stage 13, Sony Pictures Animation, Rain Management Group, Writ-Large, and Verve.
To enter for an opportunity to receive the Fellowship Award:
Filmmakers must submit a film to the Narrative Short Enderby or Student Short Enderby Competitions on FilmFreeway.
Or filmmakers must submit a film to the Narrative Short or Student Short film competitions on the AFF website. In this case, filmmakers will need to select the additional $20 Enderby Fellowship add-on.
Eligibility for the Advisory Program are as follows:
Only in-competition selected filmmakers are eligible for this program.
The Jury winner of each competition is guaranteed access to the Advisory Program along with at least one additional selected in-competition filmmaker
The winner of the Fellowship will receive the award and the coveted Bronze Typewriter Award at AFF’s Awards Luncheon scheduled for October 24. We’re excited to launch these initiatives as a continuation of the legacy of our Festival and competition credo. Our partners and jurors are excited as well, “We are continually impressed with the level of talent AFF attracts and are excited to connect with the selected filmmakers to help them crystallize their vision and further define their voice,” said Kesila Childers, VP of Development for Powderkeg.
