HBO APA Visionaries - Submissions are open!
September 28, 2018
HBO is currently accepting submissions for its third annual Asian Pacific American Visionaries Short Film Competition. HBO is looking to discover the next generation of Asian American filmmakers, and the contest will award three directors the opportunity to have their work premiere on HBO, as well as cash prizes. For this year’s competition, HBO is seeking innovative storytellers whose works reflect the modern Asian Pacific American experience. Click here to watch the official promo video featuring actress Sujata Day from HBO's Insecure, and feel free to share with your networks.
With Sandra Oh's historic Emmy nomination and directors like Jon Chu and Justin Lin helming blockbusters, Asian actors and directors are enjoying unprecedented success in Hollywood these days. The HBO Visionaries competition aims to continue the momentum for the APA community, offering a new path for up-and-comers who are trying to break through the sheer amount of competition and get their work noticed by industry executives.
We are also exploring the idea of doing a screening tour of the APA Visionaries films and looking into making the films readily available for classroom-viewing. If you or your organization are interested in screening the films and hosting the winning filmmakers for a panel discussion with your students, please let me know. I would love to discuss with you further.
Visit www.hbovisionaries.com for complete rules and guidelines. All submissions are due by Wednesday, November 14 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Follow the conversation on social media using #hbovisionaries.
