Austin Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) is a collaboration between Texas Legal Services Center and People’s Community Clinic. Founded in 2012, Austin MLP also works with other social and legal organizations in the community to mitigate social determinants of health by collaboratively addressing the health-harming legal needs of patients. Through MLP, lawyers and paralegals are embedded within health care teams to detect, address, and prevent health-harming legal needs for people and communities. For example, such partnerships can force landlords to remediate poor housing conditions that aggravate a patient’s asthma, increase access to care by helping patients establish eligibility for Medicaid, improve educational services for children with special needs, or help patients escape violent domestic situations.
As part of its efforts, Austin MLP integrates legal care into group prenatal care visits in order to address adverse experiences that can harm mother and baby before, during, and after birth. Austin MLP now seeks a Video Intern to assist in the evolution of its one-of-a-kind Prenatal Legal Checkup into a video series. The Intern will work with an Austin MLP attorneys to create video content, produce animated video segments on legal topics, and assist with managing the overall logistics of video creation.
