2018 New Orleans Film Festival /// A discount for UT students
March 15, 2018
It's that time of year again and
NOFF is once again accepting submissions
for our upcoming edition. Last year you were kind enough to share our discount code with your students and we're hoping you'll do the same this year.
As usual, this letter's going
out a bit later than I'd like, and our Regular Deadline's practically arrived (it's this Friday, the 16th), so hopefully some of your students with new work to share will make it in by then for maximum savings. The code is good until submissions close on June
22nd, though, and if anyone is having trouble with the higher fee they're welcome to get in touch with me directly and I'll see what we can do.
More info and a discount code
Greetings from New Orleans! I’m writing
to let you and your community know that the New Orleans Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its 28th edition, to be held October 17-25, 2018.
NOFF is Oscar-qualifying in three short
categories: Documentary, Narrative, and Animated, making it one of only 13 US festivals in its class. We’ve also been recognized by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the “Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” every year since 2012 (one of only two fests to
receive that recognition for six straight years).
The festival’s growing reputation is
built upon a commitment to discovering new and diverse voices, with 95% of the lineup coming directly from submissions. Paste Magazine praised the festival for offering “a platform to voices that still fight to be heard,” and indeed, 2017’s festival saw 45%
of its films helmed by filmmakers of color and 53% from female filmmakers.
Every accepted filmmaker is offered
at least two nights’ lodging in New Orleans. Last year’s festival screened more than 230 films over the course of eight days and reached over 25,000 attendees, including more than 400 filmmakers who attended to show their work. Additionally, the festival works
hard to offer guests countless opportunities to connect with the industry presence at the fest, facilitating meetings with distributors like Array, FilmBuff, Magnolia, Paramount, and The Orchard; as well as funders, agencies, broadcasters, and other film organizations.
We hope that you’ll consider spreading
the word to your students, and we’re happy to offer a discounted fee to any who’d like to do us the honor of sharing their work with us.
