Grass Roots is a new TSTV drama following a young, aspiring rapper and his personal and professional struggles in breaking into the Austin music scene.
A struggling music artist, Jared finds himself on the verge of homelessness, his involvement with drugs driving a wedge between him and his family, especially his mother with whom he lives. However, Jared has been perfecting his lyrical abilities and believes he can finally secure a gig at a popular local club. Jared battles conflicts in securing this gig ranging from his established street rival Ace trying to bring him down to fulfilling the club owner’s demands in running drugs. Jared manages to scrape by, but is blindsided before his performance with news of his mother’s murder.

ROLES CASTING FOR:
JARED (18-30) [RECURRING LEAD]
On the verge of homelessness, Jared tries to make it off of the streets and into the spotlight. His relationship with his mom, Brenda, and sister, Leah, are strained. He is brash yet naive in doing whatever it takes to achieve his dreams.
LEAH (18-30) [RECURRING LEAD]
A weak relationship with her mom, Brenda, and virtually no relationship with Jared defines Leah. She lives in an apartment with her boyfriend, Andre, but not because she needs to. Leah very much takes after her mom.
BRIEN (18-30) [RECURRING LEAD]
Brien is a shady, underhanded individual. He’s a young Walter White but with half the brains and half the balls. Despite his darker persona, he harbors a quirky personality underneath that only occasionally cracks the surface. Brien is the owner of a popular local club in Austin that could be the gateway to success.
ACE (18-30) [RECURRING SUPPORTING]
Ace has the stature of a cold-hearted, hardened rap veteran, but in reality he’s a pretty boy poet from the rich side of Austin. Quincy - his real name - forces his emotional issues deep within himself and projects through violent behavior. Ace has had a long time rivalry with Jared in competing through the streets for rap notoriety.
BRENDA (40-70) [DAY PLAYER]
B is not for Brenda, it’s for brutally honest. Her husband is imprisoned, her son is a failing rapper and small-time drug dealer, and her sister is growing further from the family. Brenda is growing older and has no time for nonsense.
ANDRE(18-30) [RECURRING SUPPORTING]
Andre is in the drug business along with Brien. Andre has a harsh look to him from being dragged in this business. Don’t judge him by his cover, though; Andre is much smarter than he looks. His relationship with Leah is less mutual and more akin to a mother-son relationship.
GEORGE (13-23) [DAY PLAYER]
George is a naive teenager. His relationship with his sister, Lucy, is rather wholesome. He doesn’t trust adults.
LUCY (12-22) [DAY PLAYER]
Lucy is as innocent as innocent can be. She has a hard time keeping secrets from anyone.
