Sight of Sound Film Festival Call For Entries
January 25, 2017
Happy New Year! I'm reaching out to you again this year regarding Sight of Sound, a festival and film competition presented by the Dallas Chamber Symphony, which might be of interest to you students at the University of Texas at Austin. In the past we have received strong entries from your program, so I wanted you to know that we would certainly welcome more of them again this year!
As you may know, Sight of Sound is a unique opportunity for filmmakers. Participants are challenged to create a short, silent film set to, and inspired by a piece of classical music (much like Disney's Fantasia). Winners receive a live concert screening of their films at Dallas City Performance Hall, with the orchestra performing the soundtrack live-to-film on stage. Cash prizes are awarded by a panel of judges and the concert audience. After the debut concert, filmmakers have a complimentary license to use and distribute the orchestra's professional musical recording, dubbed to their films.
Over the years, Sight of Sound has grown and received numerous entries from advanced filmmakers at the nation's top film schools - in fact many instructors are now integrating the project into their curriculum.
Complete information about the event (including official selections which you may view), can be found online at www.SightOfSound.org. As you will see, films can be narrative, abstract, animation, live action, etc., as we welcome a variety of formats and interpretations. Filmmakers may use our suggested music selections, or choose their own (some restrictions apply). The one main rule is: no sound except the soundtrack.
The submission deadline is May 1, 2017 and entries are accepted through FilmFreeway.
