Request for Film Project in Support of the Restore Honor Ride
January 25, 2017
On April 19, 2017, several Veterans and allies will be departing from Santa Monica, CA en route to Washington, DC via bicycle to raise awareness to the previous discrimination against homosexuals in the military. Our mission is to ensure that the 114,000 service members who were discharged for being gay are acknowledged, honored, renewed, and given the opportunity to restore their benefits.
This ride is expected to take approximately 3 months. During this time, we will stop along the way to interview Veterans who were discharged and speak to others who had been affected by the military's policies. Riders are encouraged to join us along the way, especially for segments that go through larger cities.
You can find more information on our website: http://restorehonorride.org and http://facebook.com/restorehonorride.
These archaic policies banning homosexuals from the military have received very little coverage, and very few people know about what gay service members endured or the aftermath of these policies. I've spoken to hundreds of people, and they are always appalled by the stories of discrimination. It's a part of our history that needs to be told.
This is a great opportunity for a film student or recent graduate to film a documentary. We will be traveling cross country in an RV and would have room to take a person who wants to document the trip. We will be video blogging and podcasting throughout the event, but to have someone filming the trip and our interviews would be great. I've found that there is a lot of interest in this subject and, to my knowledge, no one has done this before.
To discuss this further, please contact me via any of the methods below. Thank you for considering it.
